Im not sure what the problem is here or if it really is much of a problem, but I would like to remove these file for peace of mind. I tried the download twice more from different sites and each time I got unremovable DOS files (with 0KB) and the error message that they are not valid win 32 applications. I rebooted in safe mode and got the same message.

When I saw that I could not use this downloaded file I tried to delete it but got the message that it was in use by another person or programme, but I could find no reference to it in task manager or msconfig. At the same time ( although Im not sure if its directly related) I found all the files had disappeared in a specific directory on an external drive I use for games (although other files in a different directory on the same drive were untouched), I should add that at the time of downloading I had done nothing to activate that external drive and all downloads go to a dedicated directory on my hard drive). I then got several error boxes coming up with the heading NTVDM CPU illegal instruction). When I opened this file, a DOS window opened (16 bit MS DOS subsystem) with no script but just some flashing on its screen.

When the download completed, I found a DOS-style icon for it in my download directory. However, I downloaded a file called americas army vanguard 2.2 (it takes forever even using so called hi-speed connection). After doing so I tried to dow load some files with no problem. I recently downloaded Firefox (Fx) after getting fed up with IE especially with download failures using that programme.
